Attachment for bedroom cabinet

Our customer created an attachment for the bedroom cabinet. This became a solution to his problem that various empty boxes of household and electrical appliances accumulated on top of the cabinet and destroyed the overall picture in his bedroom.

The self-imposed specifications:

  • Inexpensive
  • Shapely
  • Manufactured myself, as no suitable attachments are available in stores
  • Space should be used in the best possible way

Construction of the top elements for the bedroom Cabinet

At the beginning, a true-to-scale drawing was created in order to determine the material requirements.
Based on the measurements, light wooden panels (16 mm) in the appropriate size were then bought from specialist wood shops.
The dimension for the cut was reduced by 1 mm, as the decorative film will compensate for this later on.

With a Forstner drill, holes 12 mm deep were drilled on the back of the panels, into which the neodymium disc magnets (size: 25 x 12 mm) were then glued in. They cannot be seen from the front.
If you don’t have the right tools for this yourself, you can have it done by a carpenter.

The panels were then covered with decorative film. The self-adhesive film in the matching cabinet decor must be dimensioned so that it can be stuck cleanly to the back of the wooden panel.

Angle profiles made of steel ensure that all components are straight and fixed at the same height. This guarantees a clean overall picture.
An angle profile (size 40 x 20 x 5 mm) is mounted around the cabinet for this purpose. The long side is vertical, the short side is screwed onto the cabinet.
The magnets then adhere to the standing side.
Additional angle pieces (size 15 x 15 x 2 mm) were screwed onto the back of the individual panels at the appropriate height.
The angle profiles should be varnished, painted or powder coated, otherwise they can rust.

Thin plywood panels on the back of the panels close the gaps between the panels.

Assembled with a „click“ – and the bedroom is tidy!

When you put the finished panels on, the steel profile rests on the large angle profile. The magnets attach to the upright legs of the cabinet profile and ensure a secure hold.
