Magnetism in a different way; Magnetic levitation with objects
Magnets are used in many applications because of their mutual attraction.
I would like to present a private hobby project that mainly uses mutual repulsion.
Making objects levitate with the help of magnets (Magnetic Levitation)
An object to which magnets are also attached hovers above a platform fitted with magnets.
The magnetic repulsion effect „carries“ the weight of the object.
A total of 32 magnets in the platform along with 4 electromagnets for position stabilization hold this
object in the air. Depending on the size and weight, 3 to 12 magnets are to be attached to the floating object.
The hovering height is 25-30mm, the maximum weight is about 600g. (More possible with additional or stronger magnets)
Only disc and block magnets are used, no ring or special shapes are necessary.
The following magnets are in use:
- Discmagnet Ø 20.0 x 5.0 mm N42 Nickel – holds 6.1 kg
- Blockmagnet 20.0 x 10.0 x 5.0 mm N42 Nickel – holds 3.8 kg
The magnets can usually be attached to suitable places on the object, no carrier plate is required.
A switchable rotating function allows the objects to rotate above the platform.
A prototype of the platform exists and development continues.
